Books About Your Best Bud
There are so many pet-related memoirs available these days. The Marley & Me phenom is just the tip of the iceberg! The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and Merle’s Door just to mention a few of the ones generating a great deal of buzz.
Here are A few suggestions for wonderful books that are floating a little bit below the radar, but should not be missed!
The Dog Diet by Patti Lawson. This wonderful memoir retells how Patti’s dog helps her reduce her weight and stress and increase her daily joy at exactly a time in her life when she needs an intervening paw.
Another book to pick up for yourself or the pet lover in your life is My Buddy Butch by Jeff Marginean. Butch has provided Jeff with a plethora of anecdotes for his book and his weekly radio show about being a ‘new dog dad -and single parent’ to boot!. You’ll love Butch’s antics and the way Jeff retells each event!
One last suggestion is City Dog; A Novel. Alison pace, Author of Pug Hill takes us on ‘a charming journey of one woman’s search for happiness and fulfillment in New York City’ while living with her dog, Carli. It’s a tale that keeps on waggin’!
What is your favorite pet-related novel or memoir? Let us know in the comment section below! Or, if you’ve read any of the books mentioned, please share your review with us, (please use a 1-4 PAWs Up rating; 1 PAW=skip it, 4 PAWS=buy a copy for your permanent library).

Live From New York…It’s PAW!!
Hello All, Beau and I are having a wonderful time in New York City. We met some interesting pups and peeps at the Skybark event on Friday night…I’ll post some pictures in the next day or two so check back. We were introduced to the ‘My Buddy Butch’ Book author and Radio Show Host, Jeff Marginean. You can visit his website here. Another nice surprise was that we got to meet Jennifer Wilner, a kindred spirit from PAWs group of friends at Savor the Success, which is a great website for women owned businesses! Jennifer’s company is K9 Confections and they make spectacular dog treat cookies! Another nice surprise was that we got to visit with our friend Ricki Noto of ArfDog, who created those spectacular Sleepover Suitcases, and we finally got to meet her inspiration Socks! Both Beau and I are big Socks fans!!
I spent all day yesterday at the Dog Writers Conference which was very informative and they featured fantastic, energized speakers….it was a very good conference and they have announced that it will be returning in 2010. Their website will have more information soon about the 2010 program.
I’m off to the Affinia Hotel for a press event and then the Dog Writers Association of America Awards Dinner later tonight.
This is going to be one PAWductive weekend (and lots of fun!!)
With Westminster Week Coming Up, What’s Your Favorite thing to do with the PUP in NYC?
Where do I begin??? There is so much to do in NYC with Beau, but typically we are in New York when it’s a bit warmer, so this trip might be a challenge to find things to do with Beau in tow.
Without a doubt, there will be shopping…and lots of it! Saks, Bloomingdales, Berdorf’s, Every Banana Republic, Every Gap, and my personal favorite, Tiffany’s are all pet-friendly if your pup is well behaved and properly leashed! It’s either Saks or Bloomingdales that I think has a big Westminster display in the windows; we’ll just have to go to both to find out!
Of course, not to be missed is the SkyBark Event, make sure you get your tickets online here.
I’m hoping for great walking weather; then we could stroll around the Village (get a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery…MMMMM) and be hard pressed to find a shop that isn’t thrilled to have Beau do a little browsing.
Any suggestions for what Beau and I should not miss this weekend in NY? We’ll check it out and make sure it gets added to the NYC Canine Concierge page on PAW! Leave your suggestions in the comment section below & have a great day pups & peeps!
What is your FAVORITE Pet-friendly, Luxury Hotel in NYC?
When you want to go to NYC, for Westminster events or any other time for that matter, and you don’t want to compromise the hotel level of amenity just because you want to bring your dog with you, where do you stay?
Beau and I have had some wonderful experiences staying in New York City! We stayed at the Westin Times Square once and had a gorgeous corner room that had views of the sunset over the Hudson on one side and the Empire State Building light show on the other…it was really magnificent. The entire hotel has a very hip, modern vibe in its presentation and interior design elements. Not to mention, the room came equipped with the Westin “Heavenly” pet-bed, a dog toy, a whole box of Milk Bone Dog Biscuits, a bag of clean up baggies, and food and water station complete with a big mat! The staff was wonderful to Beau too!! Very excited to have him around, (the Business office especially took a shine to Beau!).
Another one of our New York stays was at the Algonquin Hotel and boy, these hotels while both wonderful, are completely different from one another. When you step in to the Algonquin you feel as though you have stepped through a time portal into a world of wood paneled, marbled, upper crust New York. With the resident cat, Matilda, a famous jazz club on-site, and a wonderfully attentive staff, the Algonquin transports you to a time of elegant refinement!
What is your favorite pet-friendly, luxury hotel in New York City? Do you have any that you would recommend staying away from because they are really “pet-accepting” and not “pet-friendly”? Please leave your comment below.
Remember that the hotels mentioned and hundreds more around the country are available for booking at PAW;Pet-friendly Accommodations Worldwide, visit us today, there is still time to make a reservation for the Westminster Show next Monday and Tuesday!
